Steve completes the first challenge issued by Air, and discusses women proposing.

Steve sings (his first ever song) about the recent country wide riots, in celebration of ‘I love Manchester day’.

Of Plato, Feynman, Marriage and Stained Glass.

Well, Steve, I promised that I would have a post up by the end of today, so here I am, sat on my bed on a Friday at 21:41, ensuring that I keep my word. Apparently Plato once said something like
       “Wise men talk because they have something to say;
        fools talk because they have to say something.”

I hope that this isn’t just the ramblings of a fool talking because he has to but rather something at least vaguely interesting!

I’ll get the general business items out the way at the beginning, in order that they don’t intrude on the meaty stuff. Firstly, whilst you did include the 4x3 banner at the start of the video, you still appear to be piloting a speedboat. From what I remember, you’re supposed to be gazing at a blackboard with the glazed-over eyes of a physicist on analgesics because his head is hurting with the search for that elusive photon in a complex Feynman diagram. Secondly, I think that the banner should be visible for longer, still seems to jar slightly when the video starts. Maybe some music would be good…I’ve been trying to figure out what our theme music should be, but I’m at a temporary loss. Thirdly, have you started the challenge yet and are you going to challenge me in a similar vein? Finally, I quite like the new theme that you’ve got on your own site, empty though it is.

Earlier today I saw this on xkcd, and instantly realised that I had to at least mention it in here, as it relates to many of our discussions on the matter so perfectly! There were a couple of questions that I had from it that I have never asked you before:
1. What do you think about a woman proposing, or at least giving the initial idea of marriage?
2. Obviously, the question could not be answered in complete certainty before the marriage had been completed and fully observed. However, surely, in the social context the question is normally posed, the fact that they went through the preparation for the marriage, the answer to the actual question asked is “yes”. Thoughts?

For the last few months I have been trying to figure out how to increase traffic to my flickr page. I’ve observed that posting new photos does usually result in views within a couple of days, usually lasting for a day or so at most. Recently, I’ve uploaded a fair number but have I been able to elicit even a single view for most of them in the normal time span? Not at all! Announcing to some people on facebook that I had opened it up to public viewing boosted traffic from other people for a couple of days, but nothing more sustainable. Most odd in all of this though was in this week. Earlier this week I uploaded some photos from the end of July when I was up in Leeds helping my parents with their band recording. I alerted my parents to this fact as I knew they would be interested in them. Of the nine I uploaded of this set, how many do you think they actually viewed (from what I can extrapolate from the fact that I know they looked at my flickr page and the stats available)? One. Just the one. Furthermore, it seems as though any photos past the second page (out of six), didn’t even get a look-in. Befuddled.

You remember Emma — the blonde lass with whom we went to the nightglow and fireworks? I ended up talking to her until almost midnight on Tuesday evening. Turns out late night tends to produce late mornings. I’ve also been painting an office and the gents lavatory at my church this week; you might have seen the pictures on facebook of my sitting atop the disabled loo attempting to sand the wooden braces in preparation for glossing, but not the pretty stained glass. You can probably guess how well job hunting has gone this week…

On that note, as I would actually like to get somewhere with this job thing and, thus, need to arise earlier than I have been lately, so I shall leave this here. I do promise that I will say more in my next post. I have a montage of my summer in picture form that I’m working on and will present here once it is complete — hopefully by the end of this bank holiday.

Until then my dear boy, until then.
